That Magic Age

Emma Schwartz '17

Isn’t that how is goes?
You’re three wishing to be four,
And five wishing to be six,
Trying to grow up as fast as possible.

And then comes that age,
It’s different for everyone,
In a blink of an eye,
As fast as you can turn out a night light,
That age,
nine or ten
or eleven or twelve,
That age where you want to be five again.

You no longer see lightening bugs as fairies,
Your stuffed animals don’t talk to you anymore,
And there was that first time you were alone
And your imaginary friends didn’t come out to play.

You’re three wishing to be four,
Then you want to be five again.
